Unexpected power failures are disruptive and unwanted—especially on a busy day with a full waiting room. Our Swakopmund office does not have the luxury of backup power generators; therefore, the logical step was to consider installing solar panels, charging backup lithium batteries, and having reserves available for feeding back into our mains circuit via an inverter.
The system was installed at the end of 2023 and inspected by Erongo RED at the beginning of 2024. We now have a reserve capacity of 12kVA, sufficient for 4 to 6 hours of business operations. This will enable us to complete the medical examinations for the persons who were booked for the day.
As an additional benefit, we now generate more electricity than we need daily, although this might be different on foggy winter days. We have also seen a significant decrease in electricity expenses.
Our smart reports put matters into a green perspective, indicating that we have already saved 2.65 tons of coal for electricity generation and prevented 6.9 tons of CO2 production. This is equivalent to planting 474 trees!
